Week 01 Feedback for Jessica Seto BW Sketch
Week 01 Feedback for Jessica Seto, Black and white WIP
Great job Jessica! I have little to say except watch out for tangents. You can see here the areas where i have put a red cross.
You have two choices, you either create an overlap or you separate them more. FOr the hat and the blade i would separate them. The watch could overlap on top of the scarf thingy, and the hilt of the sword could overlap on top of the hat or be separated more etc.
Overall this is excellent. Great desicion in tilting the camera, it makes your image dynamic, and moody. Great angle as well, from the bottom, incresing the tension, and drama. Love the elegance of your lines and the bloodborne feel. Great choice of background and light. This is a great example of a sketch you can send a client. You can proceed with the final.

Week 01 Class
Hi everyone,
Hope you enjoyed the class.
Hope you enjoyed the class.
Here are some notes on Deadlines and Feedback:
Like I mentioned, the Assignments for this class, are fairly complex and in general will have a lot going on, so I would like to give you 1 entire week to complete them. You will post your work every Wednesday at midnight and I will take Thursday mornings to go through the homework, grade it, provide feedback, and share it with you during the class in that same afternoon.
Here is the Assignment for Week 02 :
Finish the assignment started in class: Card Art Illustration ( Applibot Card Format ).
Theme: "Dark Wizard Apprentice"
Setting : fantasy
Goal : Push it as far as you can in terms of polish, it will allow me to see where each of you is.
I want to see a black and white sketch like this example :
Try to post your black and white image in the blog, before jumping to colors. I will do my best to provide feedback.
And i want to see a final color piece. Push it as far as you can. This is for me to see your respective levels.
Example :

Example :
While looking at some of your sketches, i told you to cut a part or zoom out etc. Do it but retain your portrait format please. So it is consistent with the rest of the class.
Deadline for the Assignment : Wednesday 19 April at midnight.
In weeks to come, i will provide examples of what i expect the final images to look like specifically. But for this one push it as far as you can, i want to see where you are.
Technics: Whatever. I just want a well balanced image. So if you photobash, make sure to "kill" the photos, and if you use 3D make sure that it doesn't look like a cheesy 3D illustration.
For inspiration :
-Brad Rigney
-Jon Foster
-Karla Ortiz
If you have questions about the class, create a Week 01 Question thread. Same for the Industry Topics that you want to talk about. Post those topics alongside your questions. We will try to cover them in class while we work.
If we don't have time to cover this in class, we could go for food after class and talk about it.
Little Recap :
-Remember about your composition, and your framing
-No Tangents please
-Give breathing room to your image
-Think about how your image is read. The order, and the flow.
-Constantly think about contrast in every aspect of your image.
-Work on your speed
-Don't daydream or pixel push, be confident in your choices, be quick and bold.
Here is my email : fredram@gmail.com
Please do not send me your homework at my email, post it on the blog.
Don't forget to use labels, etc your name, the week number etc etc you know the drill.
I think that's it, if you need more info or a clarification, let me know.
